ABOUT ME
A CIEP-trained, passionate and experienced editor
My name is Judith Leask and I live in Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire – as I write this, I can look out of my window to see the spire of the church where he’s buried. I like to think there’s something of his way with words that’s infused into the local air.

I came to freelance editing and writing work following eight years of honing my skills in creative writing, and twenty years’ writing and editing experience in the business and public sectors.

I particularly enjoy writing historical fiction and mildly spooky modern short stories, with some social commentary. I've also written a middle grade dragon novel for my kids, just for fun. If you’d like to see a sample of my writing, try the short story in Shorts magazine here.

Through many years of participating in different writing groups and courses I discovered my passion for working with people on their writing and making it shine – I talk more about this on my Fiction Editing and Non-Fiction Editing pages.

In my business and public sector life I led projects to develop many types of report or communication, ensuring they were clear, fit for purpose and error-free. I was always the office nerd for anything written. I talk more about what that means on my Business Editing and Content Writing page.

I am fully trained in editing by Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), the UK’s professional body for editing, of which I’m an Intermediate Member. My significant experience in editing ensures that I can meet your needs.
Please have a look at the testimonials on my Home page. I look forward to hearing from you!
GENRES I ENJOY
I have always been a reader. In my youth I couldn’t get enough of the classics – George Eliot, Tolstoy, E M Forster – and I now gravitate towards historical novels. I love contemporary literary works, and I don’t mind a touch of the speculative or fantastical – David Mitchell, Patrick Gale, Khaled Hosseini are just a few of my favourites. I also find crime, mystery, thriller and short stories fascinating – and a good biography or travelogue works for me too. I’ve loved reading middle grade and young adult books with my children, from Terry Pratchett to Michelle Paver to Teri Terry. My daughter will now only read manga, but I’m not sure I could handle reading a book back to front. With the exception of the manga, I edit and read in all of these genres.
